Democracy – 2

Dictatorship has only one truth. Democracy has many truths. The unique truth of dictatorship is discipline and obedience. The main truths of Democracy are the love of: God, elders, parents, children, animals, human life and so on. Dictatorship has always been the «hell» of selfishness, brutality and so on and so forth. All dictators had plenty of human blood in their hands because all of them started or maintained wars and none could live without them. Democracy is the paradise of well educated, sensible, affectionate people. Democracy is the defence of the humble. It is the realm of respect for human life. In Portugal what can the best of democracy do for humble people? I shall/will say. My farm was situated in the village of «Mire de Tibães». I worked many years in the factory of Mr. Gerard. He had come from France in the year of 1973 to set a textile industry. This was exceptionally good for my village because the people had an agriculture of subsistence, none had farming in plains but only in the mountains. The plains had and still have rich owners and rivers near at hand. In the mountains there is no water. Without water the farming is extremely poor. So, mister Gerard was a gift from heaven. And by that everybody loved Mr. Gerard in my village. And that’s what Democracy can do for Portugal and its villages and hamlets. If we have a famous and perfect democracy all Europe will have her eyes upon us. And the investments will be coming.  This is the most important subject in policy. And Portugal has two big problems. First, Portugal has a small population and by that a small market! Secondly, Portugal is far away from Europe. On account of that only big factories have the power to reach European markets. Small industry hasn’t that power and can’t reach European markets. In Holland, Belgium, and so on, small industry has a huge market because they are in the center of Europe with an enormous population. In Iberia economic growth is difficult.
