Warrior
One day, I was wandering about Montepuez the village where I lived and my dad worked when I beheld a half-naked warrior. This warrior was so pitch black and his skin was so carved that happened I was unable to learn his face by heart, to memorize his face!
We must know it's impossible to paint a black skin, so, the skin was carved! The tattooing was impossible! So, he was carved!! And carved with knife and pointed tool. Fiercely carved. So, his face had a pattern of scars. All his body had patterns of scars. Many, many and many scars!!!
It was a strong, tall and proud warrior. He
'eyed' me and I think he too was unable to memorize my face. I know this because
the warrior watched me by a long while! And I think, all his effort to take by
heart my face it was impossible for him because, he had never seen an European.
The face of the warrior was also deeply carved!! Mozambique has many peoples and
this people is the one of warriors that will set Masai people how babies!!
They are strong, tall and proud, they are the ones I would very much like to
know today. Oh! How I would like! This village, Montepuez, had a normal native
people. But this one I saw was of another area. This area was «Maconde» area,
and, it's the name of its people.
The MACONDE people. The greatest and best warriors. Better, much better and
fiercer warriors than Masai people!! The pride of Mozambique! The pride of
Africa!!
Maconde people
Afterwards, I beheld other Maconde people. I saw they had something stranger than scars. Maconde people sharpened and pointed the frontal teeth! Yes, it’s very strange, very exotic, very singular but it’s the truth! Maconde people they do on their bodies scars, many scars how if they were tattooing!!! But they also sharpen and point teeth!! Sometimes, I 'eyed' their teeth when they talked to someone and all, the teeth I could see, they were sharpened. All. In the back, perhaps, the teeth weren't sharpened. Their teeth were triangles with one vertex turned above, when the tooth was on the chin, or turned down, when the tooth was in the upside of the mouth. To see this people talking it was a wonder!!!
